Train victim and family thankful for support

The young train accident victim Van Danh has had his colostomy operated on and is going to receive an artificial leg.

The young train accident victim Van Danh has had his colostomy operated on and is going to receive an artificial leg. He has benefited from the help and support of many people.

In Mid December, Van Danh was taken to the Children’s Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for review. Doctors were delighted by the vitality in this little boy. He is full of energy. However, the doctors cannot do anything to help him because he has completely lost his anus and one leg.

Van Danh's mother, Hong Oanh, tried to ask doctors to narrow his colostomy and fix him with an artificial leg. Doctors informed her that his colostomy will expand again so performing the surgery would not be a solution, but they hoped perhaps it would stop his urine from leaking.

Unfortunately, his urinary organ has not yet improved. Whenever he hops or runs, urine spills out everywhere so his mother has to help him to keep clean. “It will be a very big inconvenience for him when he grows up if his urine cannot be controlled.” said Danh’s father.

Danh can get fixed with an artificial leg

Danh was checked by physical therapists at the hospital and they have found a solution to help him move around more easily. His hip bone ulna has not been lost so he can be fixed with an artificial leg. But now he can only go on crutches. He has to wait until his body will be fully-developed before doctors can help him with an artificial leg.

Danh will use crutches for now

By the end of December, the urine leaking problem was resolved thanks to the help of doctors. The boy now uses plastic tube to urinate. “Danh is in very good shape now. We have met many kind people. Thanks to their help, it is easier for us to bring him up and cure him.” said Danh’s father.

“We have received over VND100 million ($5,319) in donations which can help my son to have a better future but more than that, we highly appreciate all the moral support from donors.” said Hong Oanh.
