Vietnam Airlines expects pretax profit of VND150 billion this year

State-owned Vietnam Airlines Thursday forecast a pretax profit of VND150 billion ($8.1 million) on revenue of VND23.74 trillion this year.

The revenue figure is nearly 20% above the airline's target for this year, the company said in a statement. The national carrier gave no comparative figures for last year.

Unlisted Vietnam Airlines will operate 72,054 flights and carry 9.3 million passengers in 2009. The number of flights will rise 8% from a year earlier and the number of passengers will increase by 5.7%.

Of the passengers, 6.16 million are domestic travelers and 3.14 million are international passengers.

The airline now operates 58 aircraft, including 34 Airbus and 10 Boeing 777.

It aims to carry 11 million passengers in 2010, up 18.2% on year, the company said.
