Nearly VND23 trillion spent on social security this year

According to a new socio-economic report from the Government, the national spending on social security for this year is VND22.470 trillion (USD12.2 billion).

According to the report announced at the Consultative Group (CG) meeting held in Hanoi, expenditure rose by 62 percent compared to the last fiscal year. Included in this figure is 41,600 tonnes of rice which was delivered as famine aids. The total debt of poor family loans by the Bank for Social Policies also increased by 45.3 percent from last year’s figures.

The number of poor families has fallen by 11 percent.Government efforts were also made to address the current economic recession and damages due to natural disasters.

Health care system has improved thanks to a series of preventative policies as well as implementation of treatment and screening procedures.

The numbers of patients, beds and doctors per 1,000 people, have all exceeded the planned targets. Life expectancy is estimated at 73.1 years; the rate of malnutrition for children under 5 has fallen to 18.8 per cent.
