Contruction of Phu Mua bridge was started this morning (April 15) in Quang Nam Province, the fourth of its kind initiated by Dantri/DTiNews.
Groundbreaking on the concrete bridge
The bridge is expected to facilitate transportation and boost local economic development in underdeveloped Phu Mua hamlet, Jo Ngay commune, Dong Giang district.
Initial plans by Dantri/DTiNews and Vietnam Study Encouragement Fund called for readers to contribute towards the construction of a suspension bridge, similar to the one built in Kon Tum Province. The projected cost of the project were around VND1.2 billion (USD57,333).
However, with the proposal of the district People’s Committee, the decision was made to build a 90.3-metre long, 4.5-metre wide concrete bridge, which has raised the projected cost to VND6 billion (USD286,669). The bridge, when completed, will be able to support vehicles with payloads of up to 6 tonnes.
Of the sum, readers of Dantri/DTiNews have contributed VND492 million (USD23,506) while the rest will come from the district and provincial budgets.
On this occasion, Dantri/DTiNews together with Vietnam Study Encouragement Fund have granted 25 scholarships worth VND200,000 (USD9.55) each to poor pupils along with 20 gifts valued at VND250,000 (USD11.94) each to poor households in Phu Mua.
Three other bridges initiated by Dantri/DTiNews are located in southern Kien Giang province, central highlands Kon Tum province, and Can Tho City.
