3.6 magnitude earthquake jolts Central Highland locality again

An earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale hit Kon Plong district of the Central Highland province of Kon Tum on July 14 afternoon, according to the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Geophysics of Vietnam.

Earthquakes often occur in Kon Plong district of the Central Highland province of Kon Tum.

The earthquake occurred at about 15:21 with its epicentre at a depth of about 8km. Fortunately it did not pose natural disaster risks.

Earthquakes have occurred frequently and continuously in Kon Plong district since 2021. This area recorded the highest magnitude earthquake at 4.7 on August 23, 2022.

Nguyen Xuan Anh, director of the Institute of Geophysics, says that Kon Tum province in general and Kon Plong district in particular belong to the small fault zone, and earthquakes there have a magnitude of less than 5.0. Although earthquakes in this area occur frequently, they do not pose natural disaster risks.
