The bridge is 1,250 metres long and has six lanes. It has an investment capital of VND1 trillion.

Meanwhile, the newly-renamed Ba Son Bridge was previously known as the Thu Thiem 2 Bridge linking District 1 and Thu Duc City. The bridge cost VND3.1 trillion (USD134.54 million) and opened to traffic last year. It is over 1,400 metres long and has six lanes.

According to Duong Anh Duc, vice chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee, the name of Ba Son dates back to 1790. Lord Nguyen Anh used this name for a naval shipyard on the banks of the Saigon River.

Ba Son is also associated with the activities of President Ton Duc Thang and is recognised as a National Cultural and Historical site.
