Meanwhile, Tu’s husband has been living with liver cancer for six years. The family has borrowed money from different forces to cover his treatment, leading to debts of around VND400 million (USD164,609).

In 2021, Tu’s eldest son died because of a traffic accident, leaving behind his wife and two small children.

Doctor Nguyen Viet Minh from Viet Duc Hospital said that Duc was hospitalised with serious head trauma, He underwent a craniotomy to remove a hematoma. He is now battling with high fever owing to meningitis. It would take him at least 3-6 months to recover and the treatment would be very costly.
