Storm Vamco nears central Vietnam

Storm Vamco has become stronger and is heading to the central region of Vietnam, according to the National Centre for Hydrometeorology Forecasting.

The centre reported that at 4 am, November 14, the storm was located 390 kilometres to the east of Danang-Thua Thien Hue provinces with a wind power of 135-165km per hour.

By 4 pm today, the storm would be 190 kilometres to the east of Da Nang-Thua Thien Hue with the wind power of 135-150 kilometres per hour.

In the next 24-48 hours to come, the typhoon would move the west-southwest to the mainland of localities from Ha Tinh to Quang Nam and then weaken into a tropical depression.

Since this morning, localities from Nghe An to Quang Ngai have had heavy rain and violent winds.

Authorities of Danang City and the province of Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue have issued a curfew to ensure safety during the storm.

Danang has banned local residents from leaving home from 12 pm today November 14 until receiving further notice from concerned agencies. Meanwhile, the ban for people in Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue is from 6 pm today.

People are also not allowed to stay at fishing boats, ships, watch-towers at seafood farms or construction works.
