The annual event was jointly organised by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the local authorities in ten provinces and cities.

In the southern city of Can Tho, the ceremony was held on Friday night to commemorate 5,200 soldiers who died in the struggles for national liberation and reunification.

More than 300 young people arrived at the Can Tho City War Cemetery to light up 5,200 candles at the soldiers' graves.

Speaking at the ceremony, Can Tho City Youth Union Secretary, Lu Thi Ngoc Anh, said that besides honouring dead soldiers at the city war cemetery, they organised some other activities to support the families of local dead and wounded soldiers.

"We've raised funds and presented 40 scholarships worth VND 60 million to students who are from families of local dead and wounded soldiers on this occasion," she said.

The event also took place simultaneously at nine other war cemeteries in the provinces and cities of Danang, Tay Ninh, Binh Dinh, Hai Duong, Dien Bien, Bac Kan, Long An, Ben Tre, and Dak Lak.
