Authorities of Da Lat City in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong are investigating a case in which a dog was severely mistreated by its owner.

On August 20, three clips about a young man's violent behaviour towards his dog were published on a Facebook account.

The Alaskan Malamute is often used for photography business services at Lam Vien Square or other tourist spots in Da Lat. Visitors have to pay to take photos with the dog.

According to the clips, the big dog with brown and white fur was chained in a yard and beaten by the owner with a stick. The man repeatedly hit the dog's head and jabbed forcefully at its face and muzzle. Despite the pet's cries of pain, the young man ignored it.

The videos rapidly went viral, stirring public anger that called for a boycott of the dog photography service.

Many people were outraged by the man's animal abuse and urged local authorities to investigate the case, saying that the action had affected the image of Da Lat.

The Facebook account owner said she had seen the dog being beaten by the man many times.
