An Eva Air aircraft's wing was left damaged after it crashed into a light pole at Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City on July 3.

A Tan Son Nhat Airport report said that the incident occurred at 4.04 pm on July 3 when a Boeing 777 aircraft operated by Eva Air was running on a taxiway to prepare for takeoff. Instead of running to the runway, the pilot mistakenly directed the plane to the parking area. The aircraft then hit and broke a light pole, and the intense crash damaged the plane's left wing.

"The incident occurred when all the signal systems were operating normally at the airport, and the weather condition posed no threats to airlines' operation," the airport said. "Fortunately, the incident didn't affect flights at the airport, and all passengers were safe."

The plane is being repaired while the airport authorities investigate the cause of the incident.

Eva Air is a Taiwanese international airline which was established in 1989 and headquartered in Taoyuan Airport in Taipei. The airline is currently operating flights to 60 destinations worldwide including a route connecting Taoyuan and Tan Son Nhat.
