March 22 is United Nations World Water Day. The government is focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

DTiNews presents a collection featuring Vietnamese people and fresh water:

People in Hanoi's Long Bien District take water from the Red River into a big vase in a traditional festival.

The vase was then carried to the local communal house to worship the village deities.

Pai Lung Lake in the remote mountainous Meo Vac District in Ha Giang Province. The reservoir was built to keep fresh water for local people during the dry season. There are nearly 20 such reservoirs in the district with total capacity of 111,018 cubic metres which supply water for over 21,750 local people.

A shadow of a fishing boy reflected on the sea in the northern Nam Dinh Province during the solar eclipse on July 22, 2009.

Local people in Hanoi's Hoang Mai District waiting truck carrying fresh water in the summer of 2014 after a water pipeline was broken.

A woman in Hanoi's Thach That District buying freshwater from her neighbour. Natural freshwater resources in this area have been running out.

Water pipes installed by people in Hanoi's Quoc Oai District to take water from a lake for daily use. Like their neighbours in Thach That District, people here are facing serious shortages of fresh water.

Water pipes at an old apartment building in Hanoi. The old water pumping equipment hasn't worked properly so local residents have to use small pumps to take water from a storage basin to their apartments.

Water tanks are seen on the roofs of many apartment buildings in Thanh Cong Residential Area in Hanoi.
