Additional 7,455 more Covid-19 infections confirmed, total tally surpasses 160,000
An additional 7,455 more Covid-19 infections were confirmed on Monday, raising the total number of patients in the country to 161,761 , the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 7,445 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 4,264 in Ho Chi Minh City, 949 in Binh Duong, 445 in Long An, 380 in Dong Nai, 286 in Khanh Hoa, 221 in Can Tho, 159 in Hanoi, 132 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 79 in Tien Giang, 77 in Dong Thap, 76 in Danang, 50 in Vinh Long, 46 in Binh Thuan, 31 in Tra Vinh, 25 in Phu Yen, 21 in Binh Dinh, 21 in Nghe An, 19 in Ninh Thuan, 19 in Quang Nam, 18 in Kien Giang, 17 in An Giang, 14 in Dak Lak, 13 in Ninh Binh, 12 in Dak Nong, 11 in Hau Giang, 10 in Ha Tinh, nine in Thanh Hoa, eight in Binh Phuoc, seven in Gia Lai, six in Son La, four in Thua Thien-Hue, three in Vinh Phuc, three in Lang Son, three in Quang Ngai, two each in Lam Dong, Ha Nam, and Quang Binh, and one in Hung Yen. Among these new infections, 2,344 cases were found in the communities.
Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Sunday, the city also recorded 4,052 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. Social distancing rules are being further tightened in the city to contain the virus spread.
As of Monday evening, 157,919 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 98,559 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 62 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 161,761 including 159,489 locally-transmitted cases.

On August 2, a total of 3,808 more patients were released from hospital following their full recovery, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 46,965.
Also on Monday, a further 389 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 1,695.
