 >>  Hanoi faces water shortage this summer

Thousands of people at an apartment in HCM City are facing a full-on lack of water as the service provider failed to ensure supplies.

Around 4,000 people at Ehomes Phu Huu Apartment Complex in Thu Duc City have faced water shortages since Wednesday morning. Thu Duc Water Supply JS Company initially reported that supply would be resumed by midnight. However, residents still lacked water by Thursday morning.

The residents queue up to take water from the water trucks on the evening of April 3.

The company sent water trucks to temporarily provide water for thousands of the residents who queued up from 10 pm on Wednesday. Due to the limited supply, many had to wait for hours.

"This is the worst-ever water supply interruption. My wife and children had to go to nearby relatives to shower and have dinner. Our family’s life has been troubled,” said a man.

Residents said that this is the worst-ever water supply interruption in the area.

The owner of a grocery store in the apartment complex said the demand for bottled water had surged considerably since Wednesday afternoon. Many households bought 18-litre water bottles to use.

According to a representative from the Ehomes Phu Huu Management Board, the residential area consumes roughly 600 cubic metres of water per day, but water trucks could only supply a tenth of this.

Thu Duc Water Supply Joint Stock Company Director Nguyen Cong Minh said supply had been interrupted due to a technical problem related to a water supply pipeline near the apartment complex.

The firm has already fixed it but Ehomes Phu Huu Apartment Complex is located at the end of the water source, therefore, the water pressure is often weaker. The company continued arranging water trucks on Thursday.
