Some 11 fishing boats were burnt in a fire at a shipbuilding yard in the southern province of Phan Thiet on December 7.
The incident occurred at 3 pm on December 7 at the Phan Thiet Shipbuilding Yard which is located by the Phu Hai River in Phan Thiet City. The fire broke out at the yard and quickly spread to many boats anchored on the river during strong winds, which caused difficulties for rescue work.
The fire was properly controlled at 6.30 pm when authorities reported that 11 fishing boats had been destroyed with total damage valued at VND40 billion.
Initial investigations showed that the fire broke out while workers were doing some repairs.
